5G Global Day of Action – Sept 26, 2020 – Vancouver Island Events

The Annual Global Day of Protest against 5G (Fifth Generation cellular networks) is coming up this Saturday, September 26, 2020. Two events are planned for Vancouver Island on the day: one in Victoria, BC, and one in Qualicum Beach, BC.

Victoria, BC: From 1:00-2:00 pm gather at the ISED (formerly Industry Canada) office, 1230 Government St. Bring signs and posters, and remember social distancing and masks. We will picket on the sidewalk outside this office. Make signs that have some info about higher energy use, capturing data for Internet of Things, cybersecurity hazard, as well as health issues. Hopefully, we will be able to share some of our information with people new to the topic. Please spend just an hour of your time to protest publicly against 5G and ISED’s failure to ensure our safety, privacy and environment.

Qualicum Beach, BC: From 12:30-2:30 pm gather at the site of the proposed cell tower on Village Way at Old Island Highway. Open mike at 1:00 pm. We are following Covid-19 protocols. Masks are appreciated, and required if you wish to use the microphone. Meters will be demonstrated, and volunteers will be available to answer questions you may have.

Personal message from website owner, Kim Goldberg: There are MANY legitimate reasons to raise concerns about the roll-out of 5G – the most basic of which is that the Precautionary Principle is not being observed. We do NOT have data confirming that these exposures are safe, and there is a considerable body of evidence suggesting it may not be safe.

Apart from human health and safety risks, there is the impact to wildlife, environment, forests, honeybees, whales–all of which have shown signs of significant damage from wireless radiation.

And then there are the very legitimate cybersecurity concerns (hacking, potential shut-downs of hospitals, governments, entire population centres). As well as the vast data collection on individuals that is occurring already and that will become even more possible and more comprehensive with the advent of 5G cellular networks and the Internet of Things.

My point is that it is not necessary at all to go down the QAnon rabbit hole of endless Youtube videos and conspiracy theories in order to make a legitimate case against the roll-out of 5G. In fact, you are very much hurting the valid case against 5G by floating the right-wing conspiracy theories conjoining 5G to cabals and micro-chipping and pedophiles and Covid-19 and Deep State and what-not. All of that is the carefully crafted pro-Trump QAnon agenda. And many 5G opponents are completely unaware that they are unwitting dupes of that agenda as they go around promoting it. This results in a total loss of credibility for the legitimate science-based opposition to 5G.

The message to keep coming back to, in order to anchor yourself and your activist work is:

Follow the Precautionary Principle where all wireless radiation technology is concerned.

Poem: Ground Path

In recognition of today being a Global Day of Action to raise awareness about risks of 5G cellular technology, I am sharing one of my electro-aware poems from my new book Devolution, released last month by Caitlin Press.

People who are severely electrosensitive often need to sleep in their concrete basement (if they are lucky enough to have one) in order to get any relief. Walking barefoot on wet grass can also mitigate the effects by discharging the electromagnetic radiation built up in the body to ground. Many electrosensitive people I have interviewed have described these techniques to me, and I have tried them myself.

EHS Refuge in Australia: People Needed

Bruce Evans is man on a mission. And he is looking for other people with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity to join him in creating an EHS refuge in southeast Australia, on land outside of Wangaratta, Victoria in the King Valley.

The land is available for occupancy right now for anyone who can come with a van, tent or caravan. Those who arrive first may be able to have one of the bedrooms in Bruce’s cottage.

People who want to visit the land for a temporary “holiday” from wireless radiation are welcome. But Bruce is also looking for electrosensitive people who want to stay long-term, build their own cottages on his family’s land, participate in the farm and help create a community safe from electropollution.

Bruce Evans-Australia EHS Refuge

There is an urgency to Bruce’s mission. The land his cottage is on is government land. It has been used by his family for more than 150 years, and it adjoins a vast tract of land that his family owns outright. The government is now threatening to seize the small portion of government land and demolish Bruce’s cottage, despite an existing contract that would (in theory) prevent such action. The showdown with the government could happen next month, in early October 2014.

Bruce Evans, a 49-year-old web designer with EHS, wants people to come join him on his rural farm in southeast Australia to create an EHS Refuge.

“I want to bring lots of people with the same condition as me to this property and declare it a sanctuary for EHS sufferers,” says Bruce. “I want this area declared as a sanctuary where the telcos cannot infringe, where we can be left alone and not be irradiated.”

The nearest town is 30 kilometres away, and according to Bruce the radiation is minimal at one end of the town. “You can sit in the street and have a coffee, no problem,” says Bruce. “There is also an abundance of wineries and cheese factories with free tasting on the other side of the mountain. There are very picturesque valleys and farms everywhere here.”

Bruce is 49 years old and works as a web designer. It is a profession he has been able to relocate to his rural cottage in King Valley, since the work is largely done online. He says other electrosensitive people with similar web-based businesses could do likewise on this property.

Life in city “unbearable”

“I have severe EHS and cannot live in the city, as it is unbearable,” he says. “I am a prisoner in my own home there and cannot go outside for longer than half an hour. And even then, I have to run like a rat in a maze to avoid the phone tower locations. I was lucky that my father had this cottage in the hills that has no, or extremely limited, phone coverage. I can live here without any problems from phone towers.”

Bruce says he would be devastated if the government bulldozes the cottage that has become his own safe haven, and one that could shelter a few other EHS people as well. However, it won’t be the end of his sanctuary plans, since his family owns a much larger block of land two kilometres away.

“We have vast tracts of land that are completely owned by us and cannot be taken away,” says Bruce “It is a beautiful countryside with plenty of trees and much scope for secluded living. My father is willing to let people come here and build their own cottages, grow their own food and put in a little bit of farm work to earn their keep. There is some work in the surrounding districts with various farms and vineyards. There may be some work for people who have website or IT experience,” he adds.

In addition to the family farm on the property, Bruce is interested in developing communal facilities for the EHS refuge such as a communal kitchen, internet hub and gym suitable for yoga, martial arts and more. People with internet-based businesses could run their business from the property. Healing businesses such as meditation, yoga or massage would also be quite feasible and welcome.

“We need people here now, today, this week,” says Bruce. “Even if you can only come for a couple of days or a week to have a look around. This is very beautiful country, and I aim to keep it radiation free.”

BC Human Rights Tribunal Rejects Class Action Against Smart Meters

This just in from Sharon Noble of the British Columbia organization Coalition To Stop Smart Meters. It pertains to a human rights complaint filed in 2012 by Citizens for Safe Technology against BC Hydro, on behalf of electrosensitive people. The BC Human Right Tribunal dismissed the complaint yesterday, September 18, 2014.

“Sad news. Our Human Rights case was dismissed by the Human Rights Tribunal. This was a class action on behalf of people with EHS and whose doctors said that they should avoid RF and not have $$meters. Even though EHS is a recognized by the Human Rights Commission in Canada, the Americans with Disabilities in the US, and as a disability in other countries, the Tribunal chose not to accept evidence but rather to base its decision in large part on the evidence the BCUC accepted in the Fortis application.

“Fortis BC paid a company (Exponent) to defend the $meter. Exponent is a “product defense company” and has defended some of the most dangerous products in the world – pesticides, Agent Orange, asbestos, etc and now microwave radiation. They buy scientists who will produce reports saying anything is safe. One of their people said that our bodies emit more radiation that does a smart meter and the BCUC accepted that while rejecting testimony from world-renowned experts like Dr. Martin Blank, Dr. Isaac Jamieson and Dr. Meg Sears.

“It’s a sad day when the government is allowed, by the Human Rights Tribunal, to come between a patient and his physician, but this is what has happened. Here is the decision for you to read. This makes it more urgent for us to fight this re: fires, fee discrimination, and our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”

The other class action lawsuit against BC Hydro over smart meters is still ongoing. That one represents all customers of BC Hydro (residential and business) who are unhappy about any aspect of the smart meter program (i.e., getting one if you didn’t want it, getting one and later deciding you don’t want it, being harassed and bullied for refusing to get one), whether or not you currently have a smart meter.

I am currently seeking “Electro-Aware” visual art for possible inclusion in my Refugium book and website about people living with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), and the perils of Electro-pollution. I am primarily looking for art from people who are electrosensitive. But I will also consider submissions from others who are exploring this topic artistically.

How do we render the invisible world of frequencies into a visual experience? And what would a healthier world look like?

What To Submit:

Drawings, paintings, photographs, computerized graphics, collage art, cartoons, graffiti, or any other visual art that you can submit as a .jpg for consideration and possible publication.

I am looking for visual art that explores themes such as: electrosensitivity, electricity, wireless radiation, electro-pollution, frequencies, resonance, our electro-sick civilization, or conversely what the antidote to these problems might look like. I am interested in both the nightmare of electro-pollution, and also the dream/vision of a healthier world. You may submit more than one work of art. If the connection to the topic of electro-pollution is not obvious in your work, you will need to supply that connection in your Artist’s Statement.

Be as creative as you want! You do not need to be a professional artist to submit work. All artists whose work I use in the book will receive a complimentary copy of Refugium in 2015, along with my heartfelt thanks.

How To Submit:

1. Please email your Electro-Aware visual art as a hi-res .jpg to goldberg@ncf.ca (You may submit more than one work of art.)

2. Please include an Artist’s Statement of 300 words (maximum) about the problem of Electro-pollution and how it relates to your work as an artist. Feel free to describe your own electrosensitivity too.

3. Please attach a photo of yourself that can accompany your Artist’s Statement. Any type of photo is fine—a standard head-shot, zany photo, arty photo.

4. Please include a sentence in your email stating that you grant me permission to publish your art, your artist’s statement, and your photo in my Refugium book and on my Refugium website under the terms specified in this Call for Submissions.

I will acknowledge receipt of your submission within three days (unless I am away).

In Fall 2014, I will let you know whether I will be including your art in the book (due out in 2015).

“Search for a Golden Cage” is the latest documentary film to capture the challenging reality of living with electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS). In this well-produced, 12-minute documentary, photographer and filmmaker Nadav Neuhaus introduces us to three unrelated people with EHS – each struggling to find a safe haven in our increasingly electrified world.

Electrosensitive people can experience extreme pain and illness from exposure to wireless devices such as cell phones, cordless phones, smart meters, wi-fi, as well as other everyday sources of electromagnetic radiation.

“I’ve had to give up every single thing in my life because of this illness,” says Jennifer Wood.

The film opens with architect Jennifer Wood, who now lives in a tiny cabin she built in the mountains of Greenbank, West Virginia. The small community of Greenbank has, in recent years, become famous as a safe haven for so-called “WiFi Refugees” – people who cannot tolerate wireless radiation. Greenbank houses the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, which makes it part of the US Radio Quiet Zone, so that the radio telescopes can monitor sounds from outer space without interference.

Jennifer first became electrosensitive in 1996. At her worst, she weighed a mere 77 pounds and was near death. She now lives without electricity or running water. We watch her heat her kettle on her woodstove.

“I’ve had to give up every single thing in my life because of this illness,” Jennifer says. “I didn’t do it because I wanted a natural lifestyle. I did it to survive… More and more people are getting extremely ill from this and are being displaced from their homes,” she adds. “They are calling us ‘WiFi Refugees'”.

Dafna Tachover visits 60 rural homes and finds only one where she can live without pain from wireless radiation.

Next we drop in to the life of lawyer Dafna Tachover as she searches for a safe place to live in the rural countryside of upstate New York. Dafna researched 500 possible homes, and physically visited 60 of them with her radio frequency meter in hand. Out of all that searching, she found only one house she could tolerate.

Dafna’s electrosensitivity cost her everything – her marriage, her ability to work. At one point she found herself sleeping in her car for seven months.

In the words of David Carpenter, director of University of Albany’s School of Public Health, “We live in a wireless world, in an electrified world, and there are very few places one can go to that would reduce exposure.”

Musician Andrew McAfee sleeps in an underground bunker to shield himself from wireless radiation each night.

Professional musician Andrew McAfee had to go underground to reduce his exposure and get a decent night’s sleep. He built a subterranean concrete bunker beneath his home in Raleigh, North Carolina, and that’s where he sleeps most nights.

“I’m worried about people knowing I have a bunker,” says Andrew. “Being a professional musician and a horn player and a conductor – it’s just a little weird that’s where I sleep most of the time.”

Dr. Carpenter estimates that 2-3 per cent of the population now suffers from electrosensitivity. Some experts put the figure higher still. And of course, there are many ill people who have not yet identified the cause of their malaise as being wireless radiation and other forms of electromagnetic radiation. Most people with EHS go for months or even years before accurately diagnosing the cause of their problem.

The film closes with Dafna telling us that, after one year in her rustic radiation-free home, the biggest change in her life is that she now smiles again.

Where Can We Live is a 2011 documentary film by director Hélène Aastrup-Samuels tracing the lives of two unrelated Swedish women and their young families as each woman, in her own way, struggles to find peace and safety from the toxicity of wireless radiation. Lisa and Linn are electrosensitive, and each has been forced to abandon the life she knew (including job, home, education, and city) in order to escape the nearly ubiquitous presence of wireless devices.

The director and her crew followed each woman for three years to produce a film that reveals both the logistical and psychological price paid by those suffering from this growing environmental illness. The final result is a narrative work that switches back and forth between the two unfolding sagas throughout the course of the 42-minute film.

The film opens with Lisa and her young children at their small off-grid cottage in the Swedish countryside. For many of us, this would be an idyllic existence. But when one is required to live this way—far from the amenities of the city, and with no electricity—it can also be confining. For Lisa, it meant the end of her academic studies and her ability to have a paying job, relying instead on her husband to support them all.

Within minutes, the film cuts away to Linn’s story, which begins in Stockholm where she is a computer engineer. By the end of the film, after several moves and job changes, Linn is also ensconced in a country home with minimal exposure to electromagnetic radiation. She is still a computer engineer, but she is now enclosed in a specially designed workplace with much shielding.

The director’s cinéma vérité style of filmmaking, in which the camera follows each woman in her daily activities and lets each woman speak directly to the camera about the impact of electrosensitivity of her life, ends up supplying us with a startlingly frank portrait of the full scope of electrosensitivity. (And, although this may not have been the director’s intention, the film is also an excellent travelogue for life in the Swedish countryside. I was ready to pack my bags by the end of the film.)

A highlight of the film is the “house call” from Swedish electrosensitivity physician Dr. Ulrika Åberg, who has seen more than 700 electrosensitive patients over 15 years of treating this problem. Recognizing that electrosensitive people are often unable to travel or return to a city, she goes to them when necessary. We meet her when she arrives by bus to visit Lisa in the countryside.

Dr. Åberg describes Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity as “a barrel overflowing”. On the bottom, she says, “we have metal fillings and other toxins from pesticides and other things.” Add to that, the ever-increasing radiation in our daily lives, plus the emotional and psychological and financial stress that results when a person can no longer function as before, and it is a recipe for total health collapse.

VIDEO: Dr. Magda Havas, Live Blood Analysis & EMR

Watch this 2 ½ minute video featuring Live Blood Analysis done before and after exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation, with Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.

Dr. Havas examines her own blood under a microscope three times over a three-hour period on August 20, 2009.

In the first examination, she was in an environment with no significant electromagnetic radiation. She found that her red blood cells were round, some were separate and some were sticking to others. This is healthy-looking blood.

The second examination was done after she had spent 70 minutes working on a computer. The majority of her red blood cells were now sticking together like long stacks of coins—an appearance known as “Rouleaux Formation”.

The third examination was done after she had used a cordless phone for 10 minutes. There were now no separate cells. All were organized into Rouleaux Formation, and the separate “stacks of coins” seemed themselves to be stuck to one another. This is what doctors see in cancer patients.

The clumping of red blood cells into Rouleaux Formation interferes with the delivery of oxygen and the removal of waste products like carbon dioxide. It also results in poor circulation since capillaries are often just wide enough for a single red blood cell to squeeze through at a time.

Consequently, some of the symptoms a person may experience if their red blood cells are locked in Rouleaux Formation are:

-headaches

-fatigue

-difficulty concentrating

-numbness, tingling, cold extremities

-heart and blood pressure problems

-risk of stroke

Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening…
